Protecting Onslow Marine Support Base (OMSB) with ARI Stormwater Filtration Device (SFDs)

2025 | Case Study

Setting a benchmark for sustainable decommissioning and marine operation

Onslow Marine Support Base (OMSB) is one of Western Australia’s most strategically important facilities for offshore energy, logistics, and decommissioning activities. With decommissioning operations comes a heightened risk of environmental contamination from stormwater runoff and decommissioning activities carrying hydrocarbons, heavy metals, microplastics and other pollutants.

ARI Water Solutions was engaged to provide stormwater filtration at OMSB using our Stormwater Filtration Device (SFD) technology. The SFDs were installed in key drainage points across the facility to capture contaminants before they could reach the marine environment.

The results demonstrated the effectiveness of ARI filtration in a real-world decommissioning environment, with significant reductions in Total Suspended Solids (TSS), hydrocarbons, and heavy metals in stormwater discharge. This project sets a benchmark for how decommissioning operations can protect the marine environment while maintaining operational efficiency.

Key Outcomes

  • Effective capture of hydrocarbons, heavy metals, and TSS from stormwater runoff
  • Protection of the marine environment during active decommissioning operations
  • Scalable solution that can be adapted to different site configurations
  • Demonstration of best-practice environmental management for the decommissioning sector
